چکیده

the malate-aspartate-shuttle is normally utilized during aerobic exercise in conjunction with the lactate dehydrogenase equilibrium. The exact relationship between the aerobic and anaerobic re-oxidation of cytoplasmic NADH therefore remains unclear. We thank Dr. A. E. Gent and Professor R. 0. Weller for referring the patient and providing clincal information. This work was supported by the M.R.C. (Great Britain). the British Heart Foundation and the Department of Health and Social Security.

Salusin-β contributes to oxidative stress and inflammation in diabetic cardiomyopathy

Salusin-β accelerates inflammatory responses in vascular endothelial cells, and increases oxidative stress in vascular smooth muscle cells. Plasma salusin-β levels were increased in diabetic patients. This study was designed to determine whether salusin-β is involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), and whether knockdown of salusin-β attenuates cardiac inflammation and oxid...

INTERFERON INDUCED CARDIOMYOPATHY: CASE REPORTS

There are few reports concerning interferon induced myocardial dysfunction. A known case of multiple myeloma who was receiving interferon alpha (IFA) for 14 months was brought to the emergency room in frank: pulmonary edema. After treatment of heart failure and discontinuation of interferon alpha, he remained asymptomatic thereafter. Another case of chronic active hepatitis on IFA complain...

Metallothionein prevents diabetes-induced deficits in cardiomyocytes by inhibiting reactive oxygen species production.

Many individuals with diabetes experience impaired cardiac contractility that cannot be explained by hypertension and atherosclerosis. This cardiomyopathy may be due to either organ-based damage, such as fibrosis, or to direct damage to cardiomyocytes. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been proposed to contribute to such damage. To address these hypotheses, we examined contractility, Ca(2+) ha...

AT1 blockade prevents glucose-induced cardiac dysfunction in ventricular myocytes: role of the AT1 receptor and NADPH oxidase.

Enhanced tissue angiotensin (Ang) II levels have been reported in diabetes and might lead to cardiac dysfunction through oxidative stress. This study examined the effect of blocking the Ang II type 1 (AT1) receptor on high glucose-induced cardiac contractile dysfunction. Rat ventricular myocytes were maintained in normal- (NG, 5.5 mmol/L) or high- (HG, 25.5 mmol/L) glucose medium for 24 hours. ...

Diphenyleneiodonium inhibits NF-kappaB activation and iNOS expression induced by IL-1beta: involvement of reactive oxygen species.

AIMS In this work, we studied the mechanisms by which diphenyleneiodonium chloride (DPI) inhibits nitric oxide (NO) synthesis induced by the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-1beta (IL-1) in bovine articular chondrocytes. To achieve this, we evaluated the ability of DPI to inhibit the expression and activity of the inducible isoform of the NO synthase (iNOS) induced by IL-1. We also studied ...
